Credit Union continues commitment to impact patients
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Feb. 5, 2019) – Arkansas Federal Credit Union President and CEO Rodney Showmar on Tuesday presented a check for $97,274.81 to Arkansas Children’s Hospital as part of a multi-year commitment to provide $300,000 for renovation of the hospital’s Teen Room.
Created for patients ages 13 through 18, the Teen Room provides a teen-friendly environment where patients can engage with peers, participate in teen-related activities and enjoy much-needed downtime.
“Our purpose is to make a difference in the communities where we live and work, and our decades-long support of Arkansas Children’s Hospital is one way we fulfill that purpose,” Showmar said. “The Teen Room at Arkansas Children’s Hospital enables patients to experience a sense of normalcy during their stay, and we’re proud to help ensure it will remain a vital part of their care.”
Arkansas Federal committed last year to fund renovation of the space and in January donated more than $101,000 to kickstart the effort. This year’s donation includes $6,637.02 from Arkansas Federal employees who chose to contribute parts of their paycheck to the cause.
“Throughout the last two decades, Arkansas Federal Credit Union has been a valued partner of Arkansas Children’s,” said Vanessa Delgadillo, executive director of philanthropy at Arkansas Children’s Foundation. “The support they have provided has impacted families across the state. With this gift, Arkansas Federal will provide a space for teen patients and their families to create new and lasting memories.”
Arkansas Federal began partnering with Children’s in 1998. To date, the credit union has donated more than $1.1 million to the hospital in support of many projects including the purchase of cameras for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Arkansas Federal Credit Union is the largest credit union and one of the largest financial institutions in Arkansas with more than $1.1 billion in total assets and more than 280 employees. Arkansas Federal has 14 branches throughout Arkansas, which serve more than 100,000 members. afcu.org #OpenToAllArkansans
