Arkansas Federal Donates More Than $100,000 for Teen Room Renovation at Arkansas Children’s Hospital

Credit Union continues commitment to positively impact patients

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Feb. 11, 2020) – Arkansas Federal Credit Union and Arkansas Children’s Hospital celebrated the opening of the hospital’s newly renovated Teen Room today. Arkansas Federal Credit Union President and CEO Rodney Showmar presented a check for $101,536.80 as a part of Arkansas Federal’s multi-year commitment to provide $300,000 for renovation of the hospital’s Teen Room.

“Our purpose is to make a difference in the communities where we live and work, and our decades- long support of Arkansas Children’s Hospital is one way we fulfill that purpose,” Showmar said. “The Teen Room enables patients to experience a sense of normalcy during their stay, and we’re proud to provide the teen’s a place to relax and enjoy just being a teen.”

Created for patients ages 13 through 18, the Teen Room provides a teen-friendly environment where patients can engage with peers, participate in teen-related activities and enjoy much-needed downtime.

In 2018, Arkansas Federal committed to fund the renovation of the space and this year’s donation includes $7,867.84 from Arkansas Federal employees who chose to contribute their own money to the cause.

“Arkansas Federal understands philanthropy provides transformational growth,” said Vanessa Delgadillo, executive director of philanthropy at Arkansas Children’s Foundation. “Thanks to their continued support, the Teen Room at Arkansas Children’s received a much needed renovation. We are grateful for their support in providing an excellent patient experience.”

Arkansas Federal began partnering with Children’s in 1998. To date, the credit union has donated more than $1.2 million to the hospital in support of many projects including the purchase of the NICVIEW camera system for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), total body cooling systems for the Cardio Vascular Intensive Care Unit & NICU and the ENT Waiting Room.
